Find your next tax-planning step.

Tell us where the business stands and what you are deciding. This check points to a useful planning topic.

For Canadian business owners. It does not calculate tax or rate the quality of your current structure.

Before you use this check

Does having a holding company mean my tax plan is better?

No. This check starts with the decision you need to make, rather than the number of companies or trusts you have. A structure needs a purpose that justifies its costs and responsibilities.

Can I assume a business sale qualifies for the capital gains exemption?

No. The property sold, the seller, the company history, and personal deduction limits matter. An asset sale is different from an individual selling qualifying shares. Read CRA's capital gains deduction guidance.
